The course will focus on developing teachers’ conceptual understanding of rational numbers. It will make connections to earlier work with whole numbers and will move into work using multiplicative reasoning to develop a conceptual understanding of rational numbers, operations with fractions and proportional reasoning. Connections to algebraic reasoning and the CCSS-M Standards for Mathematical Practice will be an ongoing theme. A focus on the formative assessment process will be integrated throughout the course.
